As a writer, I am a voracious reader. Books are my food for thought. For this project here at Substack, I’m re-looking at partially finished articles and pieces that seemed finished but now I want to re-purpose. As someone building a community, I’m investigating the question of ‘who is my audience’ (and greetings to those from Brainstorm Road who are in my inaugural cohort here). This community will start with people like you, who enjoy hearing about great books and want to hear how they impacted me as a reader.
I love to learn from books. Whether it is a textbook, an assigned reading, or a great find in the bookstore. I have been an educator for over 30 years. I began my career as an English school teacher in the mid-90s and mark that as my beginning as a writer. For the past 20+ years, I have worked in corporate employee training and leadership development. I have a Masters Degree specializing in Corporate Training and Knowledge Management. My favorite role was facilitating interpersonal self-awareness and communications skills workshops to managers and workplace teams. Some of the timeless wisdom about people skills that I used to speak to classes about back then, will appear here.
I enjoy books that explore questions such as ‘who am I’ and ‘where do I belong’ and the various answers make their way into my writing. In that context, I have a lot of Coming of Age stories in my collection from the past. Currently, I am in search of Crone / Wise Woman Stories and reviews of those books will also come along.
Welcome to my Substack!
Happy to be here and follow along. I like the list of topics.
So excited to be here to follow along your journey, and so glad to be learning from all the learning that you're doing! All five topics sound fascinating :)
